"Don't Say No to Me!"
Joseph is soooo proud of his "new" big boy bed
waiting for me to come read his bedtime story
pictures of the sprouts in two weeks (hopefully!)
Spring has been one big twirling time warp this year. I feel like a kid who has been spinning and spinning in circles for a long time- who has suddenly stopped and cannot tell what direction she is facing! I am pleasantly surprised to find that it is May already. Summer is quickly approaching. And the best part is that in 36 days I will be completely finished with graduate classes forever!
Joseph has been providing comic relief to the academic and professional stress in our home with his budding ability to talk. My favorite expression of his is “Don’t Say No to Me!” It is so hard to not laugh when he wags his little finger at me and those words pour accusingly out of his mouth. Like a good mother, I sternly tell him not to talk to his parents like that. I try to tell myself that he picked up this expression at school. But in the back of my mind, I know his tone sounds an awful lot like mine, and I realize that I really cannot blame his school for this one. Here are some other great statements from Joe:
* “I wanna do yoga” (Joe bends down and touches his toes). “See that? I did yoga!”
* “My bunny is hugging me!”
* “More hot sauce please Baba”
Recently, my mom sent me an e-mail with the subject line “Bon Mots”, which translates from French to “Good Words”. In her e-mail, my mom shared with me some highlights from her recent babysitting adventures with Joseph. Here is an example:
“On Sunday, Joey was playing in my bedroom while I was flossing my teeth. I walked out of the bathroom while still flossing to see what he was doing. He looked at me with a very serious expression on his face, then said, "What are you doing in your mouth?"
And here is another excerpt:
“At dinner, Joey took care to tell me who sits in which chair. This appears to be important information to him. He wanted to sit in your chair to color in his Thomas the Train coloring book. When we curled up on the couch later to watch a Thomas DVD, he would reach over and hold my hand. Very sweet. Very enjoyable. Occasionally I would say, "Joey, can I scratch your back?" and he would reply, "No." Then I would say, "Joey, can I scratch your head?" and he would say, "Yes."
Thank goodness for Joseph!
