Proud Mama Says...

Be it real or imagined, in my eyes my son is a musical being. Back when I was pregnant, I can remember marveling at what a good belly dancer he was (that is, until I embarrassingly figured out that his "rhythmic movements" were only hiccups). Like many young children, Joseph is fascinated with drums. Does is matter that Joseph's father is a drummer and drum maker? Maybe not. Does having 12 drums in our tiny two-bedroom apartment influence Joseph's musical talents? Possibly, but not necessarily. For months I have been repressing my Proud Mama voice when it comes to my son's music talents. After all, don't all mothers think their sons are future rock stars? But as of today, I will repress that voice no longer. My son is a musical genius! There - I said it! And I will say it again. Music is bubbling inside of Joseph's DNA. While riding in the back of the car tonight, Joseph started singing the words to the song that was playing on the radio. Can you believe it? I couldn't. He's only 14 months old! But sure enough, as we were driving along, I heard this sweet little voice singing behind me, "Ay-oh, Aye-ah-oh." The song was from Uganda sung in Lugandan (not one of the languages we speak at home). Joseph had the words right. He had the rhythm right. I almost crashed into the car next to me!
